2023 marked the fifteenth anniversary of the death of the poet Iason Depountis (1919-2008). The Cultural Society ILIOSTASIO together with the Ephorate of Antiquities of Corfu will commemorate this anniversary with an exhibition on his life and work, which will be on display at the Old Fortress of Corfu from 10 July to 30 September 2024.
Iason Depountis, who is considered one of the most important Greek post-war poets, was born in Corfu in 1919. He studied and worked in Athens until 1969, when he was forced to leave the country, due to the imposition of the dictatorship in Greece and settled in Switzerland, where he lived until his death as an educator, poet, prose writer and translator. As an intellectual, he actively participated in the circles of the Greek diaspora. From 1985 until the end of his life he creatively divided his time between Zurich, Corfu and Athens.
